Lawrence of Arabia crashed his Brough Superior SS100 ( he owned 7) when a dip in the road obscured his view of 2 boys on bicycles. He died of brain injuries 6 days later (19th May 1935), he was 46 years old.

His attending Neurosurgeon, Sir Hugh Cairns, led the campaign for crash helmets for military dispatch riders and civilian motorcyclists.
