G?day Folks The United Motorcycle Council needs your help in stopping the introduction of the proposed new laws, which will target motorcycle groups. These new laws will impact on every facet of society where an association is involved, be it biker, bowls or unions. > Accordingly they have asked me to pass onto my contact list the attachment. Could all club secretaries pass it onto their members? It is a ?form? letter and a guide only. People are asked to use it as a template only and, if possible, use their own words. And your members are asked to pass this on as well to their address books. Every letter counts, be it from biker or not. > Addresses of parliamentarians can be found at this site http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/view/legislativeAssembly/documents/MEMLIST.pdf
And more information about the battle facing all motorcyclists can be found at the UMC website ? here
If your members do help out, ask them not to send their letter as an attachment as public servants will not open attachments as a matter of course. The UMC thanks you in advance for your help. Please pass this on to as many people as you can (Cut and Paste)
MP Name Address City, Postcode DATE Dear Mr/Ms ..... I am a voter in your electorate, and a member/friend of a member/relative of a member of a motorcycle club. I am writing to express my concern at the State Government?s proposal to introduce anti-association laws in Queensland. Add some personal information about yourself, such as: - Have lived in your electorate for XXX years - Have been a loyal Labor/Liberal voter all my life - I am a small business owner and employ XXX staff - I?m a public servant and have worked for the Queensland Govermnent for XXX years - I?m a family man and father of XXX kids - Etc, Anything that will help the cause I believe the laws to be introduced in Queensland are both unnecessary and unfair. They are unnecessary because there has been no recent violence among motorcycle clubs as seen in New South Wales, and because motorcycle club members are estimated by respected criminologists to be responsible for less than one per cent of all crime in Australia. They do not target organised crime. They are unfair because they will turn hardworking and law-abiding individuals into criminals simply for being members of a particular club. They will make it illegal for people to ride and socialise with their mates. All this will take place without any court hearing or conviction against the individuals involved. To me, that?s not at all what Australia is about. Just because you?re a biker doesn?t mean you?re a criminal. Club members are generally just normal blokes who like spending time with our mates ? no different from a football club, a church, a community organisation or even a political party. We don?t ask for any special treatment ? just to be allowed the same rights and freedoms that all other Queenslanders take for granted. Instead of attacking motorcycle clubs and their members for easy political points, the Government and the police should target the individuals who commit crimes. They should also support the efforts of Queensland motorcycle clubs to work together to solve any disputes peacefully. Thank-you for your time in reading this letter. I hope I can count on you, as my elected representative, to make these concerns known in the Parliament. Yours sincerely, Your name Your address or contact number | |
